The exhibition “Where The Wild Things Are” showcased the work of ceramic artist Gopal Das  Shrestha, Yamuna Shrestha and Shushank Shrestha with a series of beguiling and playful art works. Birds, beasts, flora and fauna and an assortment of alien characters dominate the show ‒ hence the title gleaned from Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

What if inanimate objects were alive? What would they be like? What kind of consequence would there be? With these questions in mind, I create characters from everyday objects. For example, I have been working around a specific shoe that my grandfather wears and the one he gifted me – reimagining the shoe in multiple ceramic versions, with an attempt to give each of them their unique individuality through drawing, painting and ceramic. The use of anthropomorphism in cartoons and animated movies and its aesthetic have always interested me. I find them highly imaginative and at times random, but these are the very qualities that serve as the foundation of my artistic practice, within which I experiment and create a fantasy world.

At the center of all my works, are sense of humor, color, playfulness and the imaginary.

These works were shown at Siddhartha Art Gallery in Kathmandu, Nepal. Curated by Sangeeta Thapa.
