The guardian lion dog sculpture reimagines the mystical protectors of Kathmandu’s temples, blending heritage with contemporary life. During my stay with Kevin and Sophie at their home, I found inspiration in their dog, Porter. Playful and affectionate, Porter not only brought joy to their home but also is a guardian, offering comfort and reassurance. His presence reminded me of the dual role our pets play in our lives, they are protectors and companions, weaving emotional connections that bind us as family.
Rooted in the concept of Sangha, the sculpture reinterprets the traditional guardian lion by bridging the ancient with the contemporary and the serious with the playful. These guardians transcend their traditional roles as protectors, transforming into connectors that reflect the relationships and bonds we share, with each other, with our heritage, and with our furry companions. I aim to invite viewers to reflect on the connections that shape us, celebrate the joy of companionship, and honor the guardians—both mythical and real—that bring us together.
